Data security is rising up the corporate agenda arguably faster even than data privacy: it’s now routinely front page news when someone leaves a laptop loaded with customer details in a cab.
At this session, we considered the legal obligations parties have when their data is lost and look at how to deal with a major data security breach in a practical way at a time when top management’s attention can be extremely focused, reviewing communications – to customers, the media, regulators, insurers and internally – that may need to be considered. The session then pulled back the focus towards considerations when establishing corporate policies and processes and practical measures to be implemented - for example on memory sticks, encryption, out of office use of equipment - to reduce the risk of data security issues occurring and, if worst befall, to deal with them in a planned and measured way.
Calum Murray led the event with additional input on information risk management and security from KPMG LLP’s, IT Advisory Practice.
