What new gadget is currently at the top of your wish list? An iPad? A 3DTV? The OnLive MicroConsole?
Today there are more screens and more ways to consume content than ever before, but by focussing on the device rather than the content delivery, are we looking in the wrong direction? At this second Games Gone Wild! event, we looked to address this, along with key questions such as: in an era where open digital distribution is becoming the norm, what is the future for closed hardware and walled gardens? How can “traditional” content-rich businesses compete with disruptive technologies?
We heard from games and publishing legend and one of the UK's founding fathers of interactive entertainment and fiction, Ian Livingstone, Life President of Eidos, on the development of the games industry and what the future holds.
Marek Vaygelt of YouGov analysed the results of our digital survey whilst Fionnuala Duggan of Random House took a look at eBooks and how the traditional publishing industry is going digital. Ed Bartlett of IGA Worldwide gave an insight into the power of advertising content, and Rick Gibson of Games Investor Consulting wrapped things up with a typically fascinating review of retail vs. network and open vs. closed platforms as well as a look at where industry investors are putting their money.
Many thanks to all who attended and made the event such a success, with special thanks to Michael Acton Smith and everyone at Moshi Monsters.
