Our social responsibilities
We take seriously our responsibility to make a difference beyond the working day.
More diversity in the legal profession would be great – for us, for our clients and for the wider community. Something practical we can do is to encourage young people from disadvantaged or non-traditional backgrounds to consider the law as a career. We’re enthusiastic supporters of the Social Mobility Business Partnership and Tower Hamlets’ scheme for apprentices. Local sixth formers come to us for work experience and to get a flavour of what a legal career looks and feels like.
Our pro-bono practice thrives. We work primarily through Thomson Reuters Trustlaw and the Islington Law Centre and provide a bunch of legal services to not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises.
Each financial year we choose a charity to support and raise thousands of pounds annually through employee fundraising. This year’s charity is Crisis. Crisis’ mission is to end homelessness. They work side by side with people to help them rebuild their lives and to leave homelessness behind for good. However, Crisis’ services extend far beyond assisting homeless people to find and keep homes: they also provide education, training and support with housing, employment and healthcare, provide Crisis Skylight Centres (for those currently homeless or at risk of being homeless to access support and advice) and carry out pioneering research into the causes and consequences of homelessness.
And step by step, we’re reducing our environmental impact by cutting our office energy consumption by at least five per cent every year, moving to greener energy sources and stepping up recycling of everything we can.
