Amber Rudd has resigned as Home Secretary following pressure over her handling of immigration policy. She has been replaced by Housing, Communities and Local Government Secretary Sajid Javid who is promising an end to the term ‘hostile environment’. The new Home Secretary prefers the term ‘compliant environment’ which may mean the return of appeals and legal aid in certain circumstances. Although he is not promising root and branch reform, Mr Javid has stated that he will consider the Home Office’s structures and review individual policies. Read the full article here.
